Sick sick baby

Around 8 or so Wednesday night, Gene became really sick in the car on our way home. He woke several times throughout the night throwing up some more. 4 am I tried to wake Matthew to get some help but he wasn't wakable. Water seemed to be the only thing he kept down throughout the night. After being awake for 2 hours straight - I guess he was finally exhausted because he fell asleep and slept until 6 or 7.

Yesterday morning Matthew was able to get clear with work to stay home with us. Dr appointments weren't available till the end of the day and his temperature came in over 103. We ended up checking into the emergency room at 3:30. They did a strep test and a blood panel which came back clear by the end of the night. They gave him a pill to combat the nausea - which he hasn't thrown up since we started taking. He then took a short nap while his medication settled in. We were then encouraged to give him fluids but by that point he knew what came after drinking so he refused. Finally they resorted to an IV. Besides mommy, all Gene seemed to want was sleep. He would point to body parts and say "hurt hurt" covering his entire body.

Hooked up to an IV, Gene opened his new package from his grandparents and spent most of the rest of his hospital time playing with Thomas the Train and insisting he needed more tracks - and Emily (he saw her picture on the back of the box)! We were released sometime after 7 then had to go to the pharmacy to get our prescription. Still very little interest in food.

He slept ALL NIGHT! Yeah!!! This morning he's playing on the floor, watching Thomas the Train and has eaten a handful of grapes and several crackers. He's talking for his play things and in general moving much better - with medication of course.

  1. This is only slightly mollifying for the complete terror the news of his illness brought. I hope it goes away as quickly as it came :P

  3. Now, if we can just get him the follow-up they recommended with his Primary care doctor... Not today... :(
